Essential consumables are one of the first things you will need if you have to bug out. Any bag worth packing should have a supply of food, water, and other essentials otherwise you won’t last long enough to use anything else.
You need 1 liter of water, per person, for adequate hydration. Water can take up a lot of space so pack some bottles but also add water purification options like purification tablets and something to boil creek or river water with. Freeze-dried ration packs are a great way to take meals with you that don’t take up a lot of space, but they will require water too. Take a mix of Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) rations, and some freeze-dried options.
Pack Some Shelter and Weather-Proofing
If you have a place to go to in mind, then that’s great; provided you get there. You need to prepare for every eventuality, so have a shelter like a tent packed just in case. You also need some waterproofing and winter clothing in your bag, as you never know what season you will be bugging out in. Weather can cause a lot of problems, and even make people sick, so prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
